Literary Museum in Kharkov

National Museum for a close acquaintance with domestic and foreign literature.

In the Literary Museum you can get to know the literature and the history of literature in Kharkiv and nearby regions. Through its activities the museum shows how literature affects people's lives, how it accumulates the cultural experience of different communities.
The idea of creating the museum originated in Kharkov in the distant 1930s. The first building, where the museum's exposition was presented, was the House of Writers. After the change of the governance many authors were repressed, so officially the meetings stopped. The restoring the literary museum was only in 1988, but it was in another building in the mansion of the twentieth century.
To date the museum stores not only a rich collection of publications, but also leads an active social position. It hosts festivals, film screenings, literary evenings, theatrical performances, as well as exhibitions, public readings, presentations and meetings with popular contemporaries in the literary arena.
By the way, the museum plans to present a sketch of the new museum project, in which everyone can take part.
